Well, yes and no ... Here's what John Young, FSCM, USCGR(Ret) sent to me 3/06 - ... belongs to Helicopter Developement Squadron Three (VX-3) that was deployed to Task Force 68 (1 Sep 1946-1 Apr 1948). During Operation High Jump 1946-47 four Sikorsky helicopters (S-51) were assigned to VX-3 with one helo going to USS Philippine Sea (lost), USS Burton Island, USS Currituck & USS Pine Island. One eventually was aboard USCGC Northwind. Two were lost during OHJ and the remaining two helos were deployed during Operation Windmill, 1947-48, one each aboard USS Burton Island & USS Edisto.
